This unit provides students with an insight into how humans extract and use resources from Earth’s spheres. Students will learn the difference between renewable and non-renewable resources and examine some of the strategies being used to make our resource use more sustainable. They will then use the STEM Design Thinking Process to identify a problem related to our resource use and develop an innovative solution that will be entered into the Green Innovation Awards.

Geography

Year 10

The Year 10 Geography Assessment task is carefully mapped to the NESA Stage 5 Geography Environmental Management Investigative Study. Students work in as a group to select one type of environment in Australia as the context for a comparative study with one other country. Students identify one environmental challenge associated with this environment, explain how the problem is currently being managed and propose a new solution that could be applied in both countries. They will present their ideas as a five-minute video, which can be entered into the Green Innovation Awards.
